Siren has been instrumental to the operationalisation of community policing in Jordan. Working with the Public Security Directorate (PSD) since 2013, our support has enabled this key security agency to become closely attuned and responsive to community needs.
Siren’s approach is built around supporting the PSD to:
- Design and deliver community dialogue and joint safety campaigns, including through the provison of media support;
- Create ‘safe spaces’ and venues for confidential police- community interaction;
- Improve internal coordination mechanisms within the PSD;
- Plan and deliver joint safety initiatives with the community.
Institutionalising a new model of community policing across the PSD
Introducing community policing to refugee camps
Improving online safety and access to protections services
Using insights from our ground breaking research into online bullying, harassment and blackmail in Jordan, Siren delivered programming between 2021 and 2022 that lowered the barriers for victims, particularly women and girls, to report incidents and obtain help. Our staff built the capacity of six local CBOs to raise awareness around interpersonal cybercrime, share safety messaging, and act as a bridges to protection actors and the PSD. They also developed a digital application that confidentially connects cybercrime victims with these entities.
