Building states that create safe, just, and free societies involves nurturing the best talent and ideas until tangible impact is felt at the community level.
That's why we've launched our first ever scholarship program, which each year will fund one Lebanese student's graduate education at the University of East Anglia in the UK and follow up work experience in Beirut.
The offer
The program will cover tuition fees for the MA in Conflict, Governance and International Development at UEA's School of International Development, in addition to maintenance costs.
We are also offering scholars a paid internship at our Beirut headquarters, where they will gain hands-on experience of designing and implementing projects that bring about positive change in the systems, processes and capabilities of Lebanon's public sector institutions.
Why
It has never been more urgent than now to support future change makers in Lebanon.
Not only has much of central Beirut been destroyed by the catastrophic Aug. 4 explosion at the city's port, but ordinary Lebanese are suffering from a crippling financial collapse that has seen most people's life savings wiped out. Thousands of Lebanon's brightest individuals are being forced by these conditions to leave the country in search of work.
By providing financial support and a world class educational experience for Lebanese students, we hope they will stay in Lebanon to fight the public sector corruption, nepotism and mismanagement that led to these disasters and are preventing the Lebanese from realising their full potential.
Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate a clear wish to build their career in public sector transformation in Lebanon post-graduation.
The deadline for applications is 14 May 2021
Applications are to be made through UEA's website
